ALTERNATIVE HYPOTHESIS SEMINAR TOPIC

ALTERNATIVE HYPOTHESIS

An alternative hypothesis is one in which a difference (or an effect) between two or more variables is anticipated by the researchers; that is, the observed pattern of the data is not due to a chance occurrence.  The concept of the alternative hypothesis is a central part of formal hypothesis testing.

Null hypothesis (H0)
The null hypothesis states that a population parameter (such as the mean, the standard deviation, and so on) is equal to a hypothesized value. The null hypothesis is often an initial claim that is based on previous analyses or specialized knowledge.
Alternative Hypothesis (H1)
The alternative hypothesis states that a population parameter is smaller, greater, or different than the hypothesized value in the null hypothesis. The alternative hypothesis is what you might believe to be true or hope to prove true.
EXAMPLE:
when we want to test whether the population mean is 65 the null hypothesis is population mean is 65 and alternative hypothesis is population mean is not 65.

Alternative Hypothesis

 Alternative hypothesis

Any hypothesis other than null hypothesis is called alternative hypothesis. If the working hypothesis is proved wrong or reject another hypothesis is formulated  to be tested to be  tested to produce the  desired result which is known as alternative hypothesis.

A  statistical hypothesis is a hypothesis concerning the parameter or form of the probability distribution for a designed population , more generally of a probabilistic mechanism which is supposed to generate the observation.

Null hypothesis: It is usually stated for the purpose of possible acceptance denoted by H0, Null hypothesis simply means NO DIFFERENCE .

EXAMPLE; When we want to test whether the population mean is 65 the null hypothesis is population mean is 65 and alternative hypothesis is population mean is not 65.
